About Nikita

Nikita Prasad, MA, AMFT

Working under supervision of Franny Haag, MA, LMFT

I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist licensed to practice in California. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Southern California (USC) and my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University.

I identify as a “third-culture kid”—Indian by heritage, born in the UK, and raised in the US after immigrating as a child. This global upbringing shaped my core understanding that our cultural contexts (even those operating beneath our awareness) form the foundation of how we navigate the world. Before becoming a therapist, I spent over a decade working in the tech industry. I pursued the study of Marriage and Family Therapy out of a deep passion for wellbeing and a desire to bring greater representation and diversity to the field.

My work primarily follows the practice of Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), but also draws from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and person-centered therapy. My attachment-informed therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that our current struggles and patterns are deeply connected to past wounds and unfulfilled needs. Together, we’ll gently explore the moments that feel disproportionately heavy or painful—or the times you feel most misunderstood—to uncover the deeper themes underneath. In our work, we will address and heal those underlying emotional injuries, empowering you to create and live out a new, fulfilling way of being. If we are working within the context of a family or a relationship, going through this process together will foster a greater understanding of yourself and your loved ones—and equip you to support one another’s’ needs.

While I welcome clients from all backgrounds, my approach is especially well-suited for couples and families navigating communication hurdles, entrenched conflict patterns, or intercultural tensions. I also enjoy working with individuals processing challenges within the context of their relationships. Beyond relational therapy, my lived experience and clinical background equip me to support high-performing corporate professionals navigating burnout, as well as individuals working through shame related to ADHD.
